STATEMENT OF FAITH

Aldersgate Renewal Ministries holds firm to the belief that the supernatural works of the Holy Spirit have been continually manifested by believers throughout church history since the Day of Pentecost. These works also occurred during the Wesleyan Revival of the 1700s in England which is our heritage. We share with many Christians a recognition of the authority of Scripture in matters of faith and practice. The primacy of Scripture in tandem with these historical events and experiences are the source of our foundational beliefs as articulated in this Statement of Faith. 1

  • We believe in God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, three in one, and that everyone is encouraged to relate to all three intimately. 2

  • We believe that God is a God of encounter, a God who is not distant from humanity but continuously reaching out, desiring for us to have a purposeful life in relationship with Him. 3

  • We believe that even while living in sin, God calls out to us through the convicting work of the Holy Spirit who leads us into repentance, humility, and faith in Jesus Christ who, through His death and resurrection, forgives our sins and prepares us for a life of faith. 4

  • We believe those who have professed faith in Christ are born of the Holy Spirit, receive the gift of the Holy Spirit, and become new creations. Through this process, we cooperate with the Holy Spirit who dwells within us leading us to reject worldly ways and begin the process of becoming more like Jesus. The Holy Spirit witnesses to our spirits that we are God’s children destined to share in His eternal Kingdom. 5

  • We believe Jesus baptizes with the Holy Spirit to equip believers for a ministry of power including signs, wonders and miracles. We believe that all the gifts and ministries of the Holy Spirit are available today with no single gift being an exclusive sign of that baptism. 6

  • We believe as we walk with the Holy Spirit, we participate in His work of transformation of the world through our love of God and neighbor, bearing the fruits of joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. 7

  • We believe the Holy Spirit helps us communicate with and hear God speak through the Scriptures and more directly through a multitude of ways including but not limited to dreams, visions, prophecy, words of knowledge, and words of wisdom. 8

  • We believe Jesus Christ empowers disciples with His authority for the ministries of healing and deliverance. 9

  • We believe that every Christian should be part of a local church to encourage their spiritual growth and edify one another as they share in Holy Communion and grow in grace, gifts, and maturity. The Christian faith is meant to be lived in community and not isolation. 10

  • We believe that until Christ’s promised return, He has called us to proclaim the Gospel with power, signs, and wonders, making disciples, baptizing new believers, and bringing the hope of abundant and eternal life to those distant from God. 11

Apostle's Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty,

maker of heaven and earth;

And in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord;

who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,

born of the Virgin Mary,

suffered under Pontius Pilate,

was crucified, dead, and buried;*

the third day he rose from the dead;

he ascended into heaven,

and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty;

from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,

the holy catholic** church,

the communion of saints,

the forgiveness of sins,

the resurrection of the body,

and the life everlasting. Amen.

*Traditional use of this creed includes these words: "He descended into hell."
