Let Anyone Who Is Thirsty Come To Me!
During this past year, we have seen many images of drought-stricken land in every form of media. Photographs of parched land, dry reservoirs and empty wells have reminded us just how critical water is for our physical survival.
In the Old Testament, when Isaac discovered that the wells dug by his father, Abraham, were unusable, he made it a priority to re-dig them. In the New Testament, Jesus made it clear that “living water” is just as basic and essential for our spiritual survival as water is for our physical survival. He invited those who are thirsty to come to Him and drink. To those who would accept the invitation, He said, that streams of living water would flow from within that person, implying that there would no longer be a lack of spiritual resource. In John 7:39, Jesus uses this imagery to explain and identify our essential need for the Holy Spirit who is promised to those who believe.
That is the heart of Aldersgate ’08. Our theme for this 30th anniversary event is “Go Deeper: Re-dig the Ancient Wells.” Based on Isaac’s experience of reopening stopped up wells, Aldersgate will call us to clear the clutter and dig deeper into our relationship with Jesus as the source of the living water of the Holy Spirit. We are praying that this life sustaining water, will not only be our personal experience, but that it overflows into the lives of others! [Gen 26:18, Jn 7:37-39.]
We will also explore what it means to re-dig the wells of our Wesleyan heritage to rediscover what it means to be a people who are filled, gifted, empowered and led by the Holy Spirit in ministry to the world.
So, are you thirsty? Take some time to browse the brochure and then register for the conference. Invite your friends and family. You won’t regret it!
